VSCode integration and required Checkbox List

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
We have a required field checkbox list in Jira which works fine in the browser. One of the handful of checkboxes is required.
However if we try to create an issue with the Atlassian Jira plugin for VSCode, it makes each checkbox required (see screenshot).
But even if we check ALL checkboxes we get an array error.
