Hi team,
How can I reference a public users email address which is an automatic mandatory field in forms when the user doesn't have a Jira account, in an automation?
When public user submit a form, I want to send them an acknowledgment email, but the field isn't available to use when creating the automation, but its a mandatory field in the form...
The email address is parsed into the comments section of the submitted form, rather than being treated as a regular field.
Any ideas? I want to avoid creating a new email address field, and having users record this information twice in the form.

Welcome to the Atlassian community.
You can extract the email address from the comment (in this specific scenario of a newly submitted Public form) using this smart value
{{comments.first.body.substringAfter("Email address: ")}}
You can use it in a rule like this:
The next component after what I've shown would be the Send Email action. In the To field for that action you would use the variable from the step I've highlighted, into which the email address has been copied: {{submitterEmail}}
Success! Thank you Trudy

Your suggestion will not work when a Public form is submitted by a person that is not a user of Jira. Only Jira users can be recorded in the Creator field, which is why Public forms require us to specify a default Jira User to use when a non-Jira User submits the form.
