Using Release option to automate build and release workflow

Hi All

I've been out of the Jira DevOps loop for a couple of years, so hoping the community can give me a jump start or point me to some support.

Essentially I'm just looking to trigger an automation workflow through a CI/CD pipeline and code repo, to package work and release into production.

Pretty standard I know but  can't remember the how to initiate the steps, if I remember using APIs, when I want to trigger this on selecting the 'Releases' screen in a Jira Space..

See image below, the trigger being to select 'Release' from the associated drop down.

You could use an Automation rule.
