User Management

Hi Atlassian Community,

I have a question I know might not have an answer. So, let's take this scenario,

In the organization I work for, we use Jira and we can only have 300 users using the Jira software, and we have a policy to remove anyone not active in the last 60days, but we've reached our capacity and we have no slot left to add new users because everyone has been active within the last 60days.

So, the big question is there a way for Jira to automatically Kickout users immediately they log out and reinstate them immediately they log back in without the Jira admin adding them.

So, let's say today, we have 200 users logged in and then 15 users log out which opens space for 15 more people to login to fill in the space and when they log out, there's space for someone else

Hi @Ismail Sanni

As for the last statement as @Jack Brickey mentioned there is no concept of freeing license when the user logs out.

To free up the license the user should be suspended from site or remove the product access

Let me know if you have any queries

Thanks

What you are referring to is a floating license. Such a license allows you to have say 50 concurrent users logged in at any one time. The Atlassian products do not work on a floating license basis. Rather it works on a named user license where each user must have an Always-On license.

So which type of licensing is better?

Well I would have to say that from my buyers perspective, i.e. the customer, the floating license typically allows a company to serve more of their employees at a lower price point.

For example let's say I have 100 employees but realistically I only have 50 employees logged in at any given time. In that scenario, assuming the pricing is equal, then a floating license of 50 is certainly cheaper than dedicated licenses of 100. Of course software companies realize this and generally price floating licenses higher than dedicated licenses.

But all of this is immaterial since floating licenses are not an option.
