Usage of EPICs in Jira Core

Ingo May 14, 2020

Hi everyone,

I am using Jira Core and want to start creating EPICs to further enhance the task management of my team.

Although I am able to create the Issue Type "Epic", which was a default feature of the software, I can't use it as such. It differs only slightly from regular Tasks and is shown on the Kanban board without any indication. Having previously worked with Jira Software I know that it is possible to generate a different view and work with Epics separate from Tasks.

How can I use Epics in a way, that they are displayed separately from the Kanban board (e.g. in a different tab)?

Hi @Ingo ,

the problem here is that you are using Jira Core. Epics are not a feature of Jira Core. They are part of the agile features of Jira Software.

Best, Max

Hi @Max Foerster - K15t ,

thanks for your quick reply! Do you have any idea or best practice on how I could use similar features (bundling of tasks, separate view)?

Best

You can add Epics to Jira Core, but they won't behave as Epics from Jira Software do, it's just another issue type.

@Nic Brough -Adaptavist- , yes, I've noticed! Thanks for the info - I'll go and find a workaround!
