Not sure I understand which method you are trying to use to upgrade Jira.  But if you're trying to upload the .bin installation to through the Jira web interface, this won't work.   You can only upgrade Jira Software or Jira Service Desk in some versions directly on that Version & Licenses pages.  You can't update Jira Core this way.

But for major upgrades and upgrades to Jira Core, you actually need to stop Jira, and then run that .bin file from the command line on that server directly and follow the prompts.  Upgrading Jira applications has more information on the different methods you can use to upgrade Jira.   But since you're using the bin installer, you can actually download the Jira Software bin installation package. This way you can update both Jira Core and Jira Software in one step fewer.   You could also use the Jira Core installer, but then you would have to manually update the Jira software package after that upgrade is complete.

Also I would not recommend using either H2 or MariaDB for your Jira database.  The reason for this is that actually neither of these database types are supported for production instances of Jira by Atlassian per the Supported Platforms documentation.
