Upgrading from Jira 7.5 to 7.13

Felix Martel March 11, 2019

We are planning to upgrade our Jira server from v7.5 to v7.13. From reading release notes and searching the community, seems we could upgrade directly to 7.13 without any intermediate steps.

Any "gotchas" we should be wary of, or is this a no-brainer ?

Hi Felix,

We recently went from 7.2 to 7.13 without any intermediary steps. For us, it was very easy and our users love all the changes.

Like Daniel said, 7.13 is an Enterprise release and that made us feel very comfy too.

Good luck!!

Hey Felix,

There are no intermediary jumps between those two versions (I see you opened a question about going from 6.4 to 7.5 and you needed to make stops along the way for that jump).

While it's not a gotcha, one thing to be aware of is the end of Oracle's support for Java 8 - this does have an impact on Jira as 7.13 still uses Java 8. We officially support AdoptOpenJDK now so you may use that as your Java runtime environment if you wish. Lots of details about that news are available in this article.

7.13 is considered an Enterprise release, so you can plan on seeing bugfix releases on that version for some time to come. If you're interested in hearing more about that, you can read up on Atlassian Enterprise Releases here.

Cheers,
Daniel
