Upgradation process, I have both software , service desk in same instance

I have Software, Service Desk in the same instance.

If I need to upgrade my instance, what are all the pre steps to be taken without effecting my instance.

Hello,

You should first upgrade Jira Software, follow this guide:

Then you can download a new Jira Service Desk application and install it as application.
