Updating work loged

Cris Dunn
February 23, 2026

Hello.  Our development leads are logging all time worked on tasks, bugs, and sub-tasks and, from a reporting perspective, they look like superheros who can work more than 168 hours per week.  I would like to paint a more realistic picture and have the leads enter time for each of the developers.

1. Do you know the secret to moving time from one user to another on a given task, story, bug, or sub-task?

2. Is it possible to create a work log entry for another user?

If the answers are "no", do you know of any free marketplace apps which would facilitate this?  I'm trying to avoid asking my boss the embarrassing question, "I need more budget for a third-party tool to track time in Jira."

Hello @Cris Dunn ,

As a part of Actonic Products team, I would recommend to have a look at Simple Timesheet Export. This app is totally free on any user tier, and it allows to generate timesheets on personal level. They can be exported by developers and be shared with managers or leads after. It is built on top of standard time tracking of Jira, so in work items you will see standard interface and options to book time, the app just adds personal timesheets on top of it. Unfortunately, this cannot cover your requirements fully, and leads won't be able to book time to other people from their team.

If you would like to give permissions to book time of developers to team leads, Timesheet Builder app could be a solution for you. It provides many advanced features next to this functionality of booking time to other team members. This app is free up to 10 users.

Best,
Zhenya

Welcome to the community !!
If you would like to try out a 3rd party app needed for this requirement, pls take a look at

Worklogs Time Tracking in Jira & Timesheets

The app helps to view the time spent by your team members in a standard report format.

With this add-on, you can easily -

  • Create time reports in real time by grouping & categorizing data with aggregation
  • Prepare your reports based on Project/Sprint/Issue Type/Assignees and various other filters
  • Group your data to build more meaningful reports
  • CSV Export
  • Create Dashboard gadget
  • Enter Time Spent for multiple issues from Time sheet screen. With Calendar view and Board view

The app if free upto 10 users !!!

Hello @Cris Dunn

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

As per the "Won't Fix" status on the following issue, this is not a feature Atlassian intends to add to the UI.

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-1676

Based on the following, it appears to also not be supported through the REST API:

https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRACLOUD-30197

While I don't know of a specific Free app that would enable this, here is a search from the Atlassian Marketplace to help you investigate if one exists:
