Updating Universal Plugin Manager hangs Jira during the update

When I started the update to Universal Plugin Manager, a few minutes after update start, I received messages from users that Jira was hanging and they were getting errors such as:

• Exception: Error: jira-agile/gh-features missing jira/ajs/dark-features
• Exception: Error: No jira-help-tips/feature/help-tip
• Error: No jira/wikipreview/wiki-preview
• Error: jira/autocomplete/issue-autocomplete missing jira/field/issue-picker
• Error: No jira/moment
• Error: undefined missing jira/projects/sidebar/expansion-manager

I would not expect that UPM update would cause this as my other plugin updates do not create problems.  Does anyone else experience this?  I have Jira 7.12.1 running on Linux.  I update from Add-Ons, Manage Apps, using update button.

Yes, the UPM upgrade, in my instance always hangs Jira for some time. 

The best solution is to schedule it to off peck hours and block the access to Jira (shuting down the reverse proxy for example)
