Unable to view or update custom fields

John Stevens August 31, 2018

I am using the Trial cloud version of JIRA. I have created a Project using the Kanban template. I have added some custom fields and have successfully imported some Bugs from a csv file.

I can view the imported bugs via search All issues. In List View, I have added the custom fields as columns and can see their imported values. However I can't figure out how to configure the View Issue and Update Issue screens to view and update the Custom fields.

Hello @John Stevens,

If you want to change a view screen of a specific project, then follow the steps below. Note that you need JIRA Administrator privileges to be able to modify the screens.

  • Go to the project settings and click on "Screens"
  • Choose the issue type for which you want to change the screens.
  • Select/click the "View Screen" link. This will take you the screen where you can add the fields and also drag and drop the fields. See the screenshot below for more understanding.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Swathi

Hi Swathi,

Thanks for your reply.

When I click on ‘Screens’, the screen that I’m presented with has no option to associate Issue Types with Operations / Screens.

I do have JIRA Administrator permissions.

Thanks,

John

Hi @John Stevens,

You might be using only one screen scheme for all issue types. Could you please try adding fields via administration section? Please follow the steps below:

  • Goto Administration --> Issues and select Issue Type screen scheme
  • Click on Configure link for the Issue type scheme which is associated with the desired project (in my case client).

  • Now click on the screen scheme link. You may see only one scheme if you are using the same scheme for all issue types.
  • Now click on the Screen link. This will show you all the fields which are currently available. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page, you should see an option to add more fields. You can also drag and drop the fields.
  • After making changes, you can test it on any issue. Fields will be shown on view screen if we have the value for it.

Thanks,

Swathi

Hi Swathi,

Thanks for you reply. All makes sense. However, on the Issue Type Screen Schemes screen, I have 2 issue type screen schemes: Default and one that I have created. In both instances , the Projects column is empty and I can see no way of associating a Project with an Issue Type Screen Scheme.

Hi John,

Once you have created and configured an issue type screen scheme to your desired settings, you can then associate the scheme with a project. This will apply your chosen screen scheme to each issue type within the selected project.

  • Choose Projects from the navigation bar, and select the relevant project.
  • Select the project you wish to configure and click on project settings.
  • Select Screens.
  • Click the Actions drop-down menu, and choose to Use a different scheme:
  • actions_use_different_scheme.png
  • Select the screen scheme you wish to associate with this project.
  • Click the Associate button.

After this, you can follow the steps (as in my previous comment) for adding fields in the respective screens.

Regards,

Swathi

Hi Swathi,

When I click on Project Settings, there is no Screens option. The only options available are: Details, People, Issue types and Features.

Regards,

John

Hi @John Stevens,

Could you please provide the screenshot of the page you are referring to so that I can help you?

Thanks,

Swathi

Hi Swathi,

Screenshot as requested is below. This screen is shown after clicking on Project Settings for my project:

Note that there is no option to select Screens.

If I select Issue Types from the above screen, the following screen is displayed. Again, there appears to be no way to associate Screens with Projects or Issue Types.

Kind regards,

John
