we are using JIRA v7.2.13. I created a new scrum board and I am looking to have simplified workflow as "Using Simplified Workflow" but I can see only "Software Simplified Workflow unavailable" as the read only value. Please advise how can I update the workflow type
Simplified workflows can be quite complex to get to, depending on your board and what it selects.
You need to have the administrator click "simplify workflow" on your board, but the option will only appear if:
You need to be sure your workflow is not trying to be clever and will not need to be after being simplified. The conversion can fail if you've used any workflow functions that are not part of Core Jira, and although Jira will let you add functions after simplification, they can be scrubbed by users, so if you need a workflow with any functions, you should not simplify.
These are some prerequisites:
Your board needs to show only one project.
Your project needs to use a workflow scheme with only one workflow for all issue types.
The workflow only uses functions, validators and conditions that are provided by Atlassian.
The workflow has minimum one outgoing transition for each status.
It could also be that you need the Extended project administration permission but if I'm not mistaken, it's not available yet in 7.2.x
