Unable to restore JIra backup - The import archive doesn't contain entities.xml file

degan March 25, 2022

I am in my Jira Sandbox settings under System --> Import and Export --> Import Jira Cloud.

My Jira Backup folder structure is as follows:
- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\activeobjects,xml

- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\entities,xml

- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\data\attachments

- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\data\avatars

I got the Backup from my Prod cloud instance and am trying to import it into my Sandbox instance.

Following the article on https://confluence.atlassian.com/cloudkb/how-to-import-only-part-of-a-jira-export-into-jira-cloud-859461966.html , I am trying to only upload the activeobjects.xml and entities.xml files.

So, like the article says, I unzipped the Jira_Backup-2022-03-25.zip, I deleted the attachments directory and the avatars directory in Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\data then re-zipped Jira_Backup-2022-03-25.zip meaning the new folder structure was:

- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\activeobjects,xml

- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\entities,xml

- Jira_Backup-2022-03-25\data <---- (data folder is now empty).

I then click "Import data" and upload the new Jira_Backup-2022-03-25.zip. The system processes it for a while but then it eventually errors saying the following:

"Import error

There was an error importing file jira-export23032022.zip. Following issues were reported:

  • The import archive doesn't contain entities.xml file."

This doesn't make any sense however as my zip file does contain entities.xml.

Can anyone please let me know if I am missing some steps/doing something wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi @Tinker Fadoua ,

Yes, both prod and sandbox are Jira Cloud.

Prod Cloud: https://mycompany.atlassian.net

Sandbox Cloud: https://mycompany-sandbox-203.atlassian.net

Kind Regards,
Dean

@degan

Are you seeing the following feature in your instance?

@degan

My very first question will be: Are both instances Jira Cloud?

Best
