Unable to move tickets from "Ready for Release" to "In progress"

Hi there,

No table to move a ticket from "Ready for Release"  back to  "In progress"

Usually once a ticket is under Ready for Release, means ticket has been checked and should   be marked as done.

But Im not able to move a ticket back if theres a issue or a  bug for example. Need to be able to move it back for DEVELOPMENT

I thought  by having Admin rights , i would have the ability to move tickets around the board but it seems that is not the case.

Do i have to edit anything under workflow ? I am new to Jira and haven't done anything on WORKFLOW yet.

Hi @Joao Borges ,

administrative privileges do not enable you to move issues on boards as you like. :)

You're right with the assumption that you will have to edit the workflow. To transition issues from one status to another you will always need a transition connecting the two statuses.

Here are a few links for workflow starters. :)

These should help you to get a good understanding of workflows in Jira. Don't be scared, workflows are fun! 😉And the community is there for you if you have any questions.

Thanks @Max Foerster - K15t  - I am trying to edit the original workflow, and i keep getting this message: You cannot perform this operation on a draft workflow

Do i have to publish my draft in order to work on it ? doesnt make sense

Hey @Joao Borges

there are certain limitations when editing an active workflow (active workflow = assigned to a workflow scheme and used by at least a single project). I'm quoting the documentation on working with workflows for you:

  • It's not possible to edit the workflow name (only the description) if a workflow is active.
  • You can't delete statuses in active workflows.
  • If a status has no outgoing transitions (Global transitions are not considered), it can't have any new outgoing transitions added (regular or global).
  • You can't change the step ID.

The easiest way to make these changes to a workflow is to create a copy of it, make your modifications, and then assign it to the workflow scheme instead of the other workflow.

Best, Max
