Hi,

I am an Organization Admin.

Under my organization, I currently have multiple Atlassian sites, for example:

  • phenota.atlassian.net

  • phenota-team-ik8d89fd.atlassian.net

  • phenotaproduct.atlassian.net

I would like to permanently delete two of these sites, but I cannot find any option to do so.

Current situation:

  • There is no “Delete site” option visible

  • There are no three-dot menus or delete actions under Admin → Sites

  • The organization is on the Free plan

  • All users and projects were already removed from the sites

  • I have full Organization Admin permissions

My questions:

  1. Is it possible to delete Atlassian sites on the Free plan?

  2. If yes, where exactly should the delete option appear?

  3. If not, what is the official process to permanently remove unused sites?

Hi @Eran Zilkha ,

You can, but you need to first delete all Atlassian apps in the organization.

Then you can go to https://admin.atlassian.com/ of the org you want to remove, then to organization settings > Profile > Delete organization

See this documentation

But it’s like bailing out a sinking boat with a teaspoon.

As you can see on this site, they just keep coming. Users aren’t doing it on purpose; it’s just so incredibly easy to accidentally create a new site.

Thanks for the detailed answer!
Deleting the apps and the organization means to loss remove the site i would like to keep using?
Means, currently my org includes the following sites:

  • phenota-team-ik8d89fd
  • phenotaproduct
  • phenota

I just want to remove the 1st two and to stay with phenota only.

The structure is as follows:

  • organization  (phenota-team-ik8d89fd) (1)
    • Atlassian apps (a)
  • organization (phenotaproduct) (2)
    • Atlassian apps (b)
  • organization (phenota) (3)
    • Atlassian apps (c)

You can remove remove the apps in a & b and keep the apps in c.

Once the apps in a &b have been removed, you can remove org 1 & 2.
It does however take a while (I think it is 30 days) that Atlassian really removes the Atlassian apps and only then you can remove the orgs.

Hello @Eran Zilkha

When you are deleting an organization, you need to delete your apps, delete your users from the groups that are part of those organizations. When you go to the Atlassian administration go to the organization settings and in there you will find all information. Information may be different for a different organization.
