Our team has lost the ability to create new issues in Jira. This applies across all projects in our cloud server. When we attempt to create an issue, an error appears showing the Start Date and Duration in Days is required. These fields are not set as required in our workflow, and the error persists even when the fields are filled. We are completely blocked from creating new issues. Does anyone know a fix for this?
Hello @Ben Ireland
Welcome to the Atlassian community.
What are the project types involved? Get that information from the project list page at
<yourBaseUrl>/jira/projects?page=1&sortKey=name&sortOrder=ASC
Fields can be required through Workflow validations or through Field configurations.
Do the fields appear in the dialog with a red asterisk next to them, like the Summary field? If so, that would be an indication that the fields are marked as Required in the Field configuration.
Can you show us an example of a Create dialog with the error message showing?
It is also possible that there are new custom fields in the system, given names identical to the fields you have on your screens, and those new duplicate custom fields may be set as Required in the field configuration used by the project.
Hi Trudy, thanks very much for your help. Here are two screenshots showing the create dialogue and the error at the top. All the fields with a red asterisk are filled. Let me know if you see something I'm missing. Is it possible there are required fields that aren't showing in the create dialogue?

Hello @Ben Ireland
Thank you for that additional information.
There are a few things that I notice.
In the upper right corner of the create dialog can you click on the ... button and select Configure fields?
Check if either of the fields is listed there.
If they are, make sure they are checked so they appear on the screen.
If they are not listed, then the fields have not been added to your screen, but they are being required through another mechanism which could include:
To assess #1 we would need you to access the Workflow for the type of issue you are trying to create, and show us the configuration for the Create transition. You said you checked the workflow, but it would be valuable to post a screen image as confirmation.
You may not have access to that information. You may need to get assistance from an Administrator for the project or a Jira Application Administrator. It depends on what type of project this concerns.
As I asked previously:
What are the project types involved? Get that information from the project list page at:
<yourBaseUrl>/jira/projects?page=1&sortKey=name&sortOrder=ASC
To check #2, it again depends on the type of project. If it is a Company Managed project then Jira Administrator or Project Administrator permission may be required to view the field configuration.

Hello @Ben Ireland ,
Could you attach a screenshot of the workflow configuration for the first transition (Create) when creating new issue?
i need to see if you have any field validations that aren’ t appearing on the creation screen.
regards

Hi @Ben Ireland , welcome to the Atlassian Community and thanks for your post.
You said you've already tried in multiple projects and you've checked in the workflow.
Have you checked the field configuration scheme? It sounds like maybe some changes were made there to render some fields mandatory (if they aren't being validated in the workflow). Please check out the documentation here https://support.atlassian.com/jira-cloud-administration/docs/what-are-issue-field-configuration-schemes/ .
Let us know if this helps you resolve your issue or if you need more help.
Best wishes
