Unable to close sprint as admin

Deb Matko December 29, 2022

I have an issue specific to my account - others with administration privileges work fine.

I initially created a "team managed" project - and added my stories along with created my first sprint in it.  Then, I asked the site admin to convert the project over to a "company managed".  He created the new project and migrated my stories over - which worked fine.

He then removed the original team managed project, BUT - the sprint board that I had created seems to have stuck around and is now an "orphan".  Nothing I seem to be able to do can find that board to remove it; even though when I use the board dropdown in my new project - it shows up.

I've tried everything else (incognito window, removing cookies, etc).  All others with administrator privileges are able to manipulate the sprints fine.

How do I resolve this and/or remove this orphan board that is somehow attached to my new project???

Hello @Deb Matko

Welcome to the Atlassian community!

I am a little confused.

Is the issue that you can't manage sprints in a given board, or that you are trying to remove a board?

You said other people can manage the sprints. Is that in the same board where you cannot manage the sprints?

The board that was created automatically and contained in the Team Managed project would not, under normal circumstances, survive the deletion of the Team Managed project.

If you created a separate board manually that referenced the Team Managed project, and created sprints within that board, then that board would not have been automatically removed when the Team Managed project was created.

It might help if you included screen images that show the board(s) involved, and provided steps for exactly what you are clicking/selecting and what the results are.

I can't manage the current sprint in my project board; yes other admins in the project can.  and I Suspect it is because my profile has an "orphan" board that is still hanging around after the original project was deleted. But no one else has the "II Board" showing up in their dropdown.

In the image below, the IIP Board is the correct one.  The II Board is the orphan.  If I click on "II Board", it tells me project not found.  I "think" the problem may be that the majority of these stories were in the "II project" initially and I put them in a sprint - which is how the "II Board" was created.  I'm suspecting that some of these stories now in the current "IIP board" "might" still have a link to the "II Board" (at least in my profile) and since that project was deleted - I no longer have admin privileges in it.  From the tool perspective I don't have admin in "all of the projects" and cannot manage the sprints.

Again, I'm the only one who can see the II Board.  I'm just guessing...but I think something went wrong when the stories were pulled from that original project into the current one - and then that original project was deleted, but for some reason the associated sprint board (II Board) wasn't removed.  Since I was the only one with access to the original, the issue is confined to my profile.

I've not yet tried closing out this sprint and making a new one.  What I'm hoping is someone can tell me how to delete that "II Board" which is an orphan - in hopes it'll clear up m problem.

Thank you for that additional information.

Just to make sure that we have covered all the bases, can you show us the Filter Query that is being used for the "IIP board"?

If you go to this link (adjusted for your system), do you see the "II board" listed?

https://<yourCompany>.atlassian.net/jira/boards?contains=

If the "II board" shows in that list, what information does it provide? Does it show an ellipses option next to it on the far right?

I've included a snap of the general settings included.

No, when I goto the link below, there is no II Board, just the IIP board.

If you are not a Jira Administrator please request a Jira Administrator double check the Permissions Scheme for the IIP project to see what groups/roles/users are assigned to the Manage Sprint permission. Then have them double check that you are assigned to one of those groups/roles.

A Jira Administrator can also use the Permission Helper to check if you have the Manage Sprint permission.

For dealing with that extra "II board" a Jira Administrator will need to open a support case directly with Atlassian support.

I'm an admin for my project, but not an overall Atlassain admin.  I've double checked the permissions....included here.  From what I can tell they are correct.

I don't seem to have access to the admin-helper.  I'll work with our local admin to submit the support ticket.  Thx for the help.

Only Jira Administrators can access the Permissions Helper. Project Administrators can't access it.
