I have an existing project with a current sprint in progress.  The team has decided to we would like to add another column to the project.  A new status/column before the Done column.  After adding the column & status, when I attempt to move the column to its new location to the left of the Done column, I keep encountering an error.  It just indicates an error has occurred, not much direction given as to what the issue might be.  I was able to add the same status & column in another project without any issues.

Thanking you in advance for any help!

Hello @Bill Gausman

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Can you provide the steps you executed detailing what items/buttons you clicked along the way and what data you entered? Then we can try to recreate exactly what you did. How did you get the Status added? How did you get the Column added? What did you do to map the Status to the column?

I tried to recreate this scenario in my own Team-managed Software project on a Scrum board and I did not get an error. But I may not have executed the same steps as you.

If we cannot recreate the error, and if there is no active incident that may account for it listed on the Atlassian Status page, then there may be an error with your specific Jira instance. That would require opening a support case with Atlassian technical support to diagnose.

Hi Trudy, thank you for your help!

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open issue board for project in question
  2. Select "Manage Workflow"
  3. Select "Add Status" from top of Configure Workflow screen
  4. Add new status (Production Ready).
  5. Move new "Production Ready" status in between "QA" and "Done"
  6. Attach transitions from "QA" to "Production Ready" and another transition from "Production Ready" to "Done".
  7. Select "Update Workflow" and go back to the Board.
  8. Notice that the new column/status "Production Ready" is at the far right of the columns next to "Done".
  9. Move column/status "Production Ready" to in between "QA" and "Done".
  10. Notice general error notification.

Thank you for that additional information.

I created a brand new Team Managed Software Space with the Scrum template. I added some issues and started a sprint. I followed the steps you outlined, but I did not get the error you got.

Side note on step 6:

In your workflow diagram each status has the transition designation "<- Any". That means that an issue in any status within that workflow can be changed to the specified status. The issues can transition from any available status to To Do, from any available status to Done, etc. You don't actually need to create transitions between individual statuses because the ability to go between the two statuses is already permitted by the "<- Any" transition.

At this point I recommend that you open a support case directly with Atlassian technical support at

https://support.atlassian.com/support/#/

They will be able to look at information in your environment.

You can also try using the developer tools of your browser to view the console and network traffic happening behind the scenes in the browser while you recreate the scenario. You may see an error message within that information that provides a clue about the root cause.

Hi Bill,

What does the error say? Maybe try clearing cache in your browser or try a different browser. Or try it with Incognito or Private Window mode.

Hi John,

Thank you very much for assisting with this issue.

The error says:

"Some of your changes weren't saved
An error occurred on our end, try to save your changes again. If it doesn’t work, refreshing the page should fix it, but your changes will be lost."

I have attempted to save the changes in multiple browsers.  Another admin has attempted the update as well and experienced the same error message.  Also attempted to made the update in an incognito window.

Thank you!
Bill
