We are using JIRA v4.4.3#663-r165197 and sometimes when users try log in with their AD credentials the progress bar just sits there and eventually (1-2min) throws login prompt again not letting user login without any errors. This is an intermittent problem and we get no error messages in the logs. AD syncs are always succesfull. I am not sure how to troubleshoot this. Would be greatfull for any pointers.
Perhaps you have an AD instance down for maintenance, happened to me a few times. If you have mirrors of your AD you could try switching config, however, a better solution is either a hardware loadbalancer that can detect connection failure or a TCP proxy, as per https://answers.atlassian.com/questions/95882/how-do-i-configure-jira-to-use-several-active-directories-in-order-to-obtain-authentication-redundancy
