Unable to Add Columns in List View of a Business Project

Velislava Aleksieva August 9, 2023

Hello,

I have two business projects which have custom fields. Some of the fields are the same, some are different.

I want to be able to see the custom field, which in my case is called "Location" in both lists for the two business projects. For one of them it is selectable from the + sign of the list view, but for the other one it is not (does not appear at all and cannot be selected).

I read that there are some limitations and the dev team is working on them but it is quite weird that the same field can be added in the list view in one project and not the other one, therefore there must be a way to resolve this.

Hi @Velislava Aleksieva

are the projects that you are referring to team-managed projects or company-managed projects? (You can see this in the bottom-left corner of your screen when you are inside a project.)

For some context: If your projects are team-managed, there's a good chance that your custom field exists only "within" the first project, and is therefore not visible in the second project.

But let's first understand if you're in team-managed projects at all!

Best,

Hannes

Hi Hannes,

Both are company-managed projects. Also the fields are visible when creating the issue and when opening the issue. They just cannot be added as a field in the List view

Hi @Velislava Aleksieva,

okay I'm lost too; I think you may have to raise a ticket with Atlassian Support.

Just to put it out there, if you are open to solutions from the Atlassian Marketplace, you may want to have a look at the app that my team and I are working on, JXL for Jira. It's a full-fledged spreadsheet/table view for your issues that allows viewing, inline-editing, sorting, and filtering by all your issue fields, much like you’d do in e.g. Excel or Google Sheets. In a sense, it has a few things in common with the native list view, however JXL comes with a range of advanced features, and works in (and across!) projects of any type, not just business projects.

Plus, JXL will most definitely show all your issue fields if it is possible, and if it isn't possible for some reason, it will clearly say why.

This is how it looks in action:

Any questions just let me know!

Hello @Velislava Aleksieva

Welcome to Atlassian Community!!!

If I understand your concern correctly, you are unable to search for a field called "Location" in the list view of a Business project.

At the moment not all types of custom fields are supported in the list view. Please refer to the following documentation link for more information:

Could you please check the type of the field "Location"?

Hi Sugandha,

Thanks a lot for your reply. The weird thing is that the same field is shown in one list of a business project and not in the list for the other business project, even though it is the same field, so that is why I am thinking there should be a way to resolve it.

The field in question is Select List (single choice). I tried adding a different field too - this one is with Radio buttons. Neither of these two fields is able to be selected, unfortunately.
