We have existing filters on our account and I just want to add the SUMMARY field as a value in the Parameter section up top alongside other fields. It seems when I add the SUMMARY field and input a value "WC" for instance it runs and brings back the defects with "WC" in the summary title which is what we want at that moment. I then take the WC value out and it goes to "ALL" which is good too, awaiting the next time sometime a user may need to enter a value to search for. However when set to "ALL" the field drops from the parameter list after the next refresh or save attempt and we can't seem to make it stay. It is a field already in the columns of the field but other parameters are also columns in the query results below so that doesn't seem to be the issue. Any help?
Hello @Mark W Routt
Welcome to the community.
Can you provide a screen image of what you see, for clarity?
I believe what you are using is the Basic functionality of the Advanced Issue Search screen. I'm basing my response on that assumption.
When you field is set to "all" (or, equivalently, you are not specifying any criteria for that field in your search), then the only fields thus set that will display in the screen are the Project, Type, Status, and Assignee fields. If you select an additional field from the +More list but save your filter with no actual criteria specified for that field, then the field will not be displayed. If you want to force the field to be displayed, then you will have to save the filter with criteria specified for it and the users of the filter will need to change that criteria as needed.
Thanks for this feedback. My next question though is regarding the "PROJECT: All" parameter I have in our filter does stay in place like that without any item selected. Is the difference there due to the fact that PROJECT field has a dedicated listing of value in a dropdown and SUMMARY field does not have a drop down? thanks

Atlassian has specified a few fields that will always be present on the Basic search screen even if they are not being used to constrain the results. Those include Project, Type, Status, and Assignee.
It does not matter the type of the additional fields that you select. If you don't include criteria for those extra fields, they will not be displayed.

Thanks Trudy - your input is very helpful in better understanding the filters in Jira. - Mark
