I was able to create a category for my issue in the list tab using the Category column. In this tab I can sort by Category but when I go to the timeline tab and try to filter by the same categories the list is empty. I can see all the Categories I made but no items appear when the filter is set.
What type of Space does this concern? Click the ... button next to the Space name in the navigation panel on the left and tell us what the last two lines in the pop-up say.

The List view where you have set a Category value for your issue.
The Timeline view Filter dialog showing that the Category list is empty.
