I'm new to JIRA, so sorry if I didn't locate articles already covering this. I did check, but only found articles relating to configuring the field. The issues/description field is configured to wiki markup. But, I'm not sure if that is the solution to the problem I am experiencing. So, here we go.

I enter my descriptions into an issue, in the backlog view, with the split screen showing the backlog items on the left, and the details of the issue on the right. There, the editor does all of the formatting and I don't see the wiki markup language.

When I go to view the issue's detail in it's own page, and make edits to the description field; the wiki markup language appears. If I use that same markup language, #, ##, #*, and so forth; I get an "This field contains unsupported formatting" error message in the backlog view, with the issues in the split browser.

Also, let's say that I didn't make any updates to the issue/description field in the issue's URL. Instead, I created an issues tag in the description within the issue's URL. in order for me to create a tag for an issue within a description; I have to update it in the issues detail view, with the issue's URL; because I can't in the Backlog URL. When I edit the description of that issue in the backlog URL. I get the same error message "This field contains unsupported formatting"; and I see the markup language.

Also, my indented lists do not change from numbers, to lowercase letters, and so forth. They stay as numbers.

Can someone help me out?
