Test Execution Gadget filter by Component

Those new to the Atlassian Community have posted less than three times. Give them a warm welcome!
I am trying to use the Test Execution gadget on a JIRA dashboard.
Now within Test Execution you can group by one of Cycle/Folder/Component/User.
The one I am interested in is by Component. When I select that option All Test cases in default to No Component.
When I look at the Test Case in the Cycle I can show the Component Column but can't edit it - see attached image I had hoped to set this to say 1 of 6 different values that way when group by Component in the Dashboard I will get some granularity on the Test Execution gadget on how my Testing is progressing.
Any thoughts on how I can set the Component field to use this group by feature?
