Tasks completed in sprint carried over to next sprint

I just completed my first sprint--all items were marked as done, except for one.  I completed the sprint and selected the option to carry over that one item.  When I looked at sprint 2, it had that one item but also a number of other tasks that were completed in sprint 1. 

Is there a way to relate those completed tasks back to Sprint 1 or hide them from the backlog?

Is this a bug?  If not, how do I avoid this in the future?

When you completed the sprint, were all the "done" issues in the last column of the board?

If they weren't, then Jira can't consider them "done", so they will carry over into the next sprint which remains part of the backlog.

Hello @Donald Baker welcome to the community. The tasks should have a resolution in order for Jira to consider them as closed. Please validate that's the case or add some screenshots for better assist you
