Task in sprint is always created in backlog

Jorj_Thomas May 11, 2020

Hello. I will be happy for your help.

When creating a task in a specific sprint, it is still created in the backlog.

I was trying to create a task in sprint number 3. But the task was created in the backlog. How can I fix this problem?

Added images, you can see on them how I create a task in an unstarted sprint, but right after creation it falls into the backlog.

HI @Jorj_Thomas - There should have been a drop down next to the create button to add to the sprint or backlog. Since, you don't see it. It is probably because you don't have the edit permission. When you move it to the sprint, the ticket will be edited with he sprint name value.

Hope this answers your question.

Hi @Benjamin  -  Do you have the opportunity to show what this drop-down list looks like? I will be an administrator and checked all the rights, I have full access to sprints.

@Jorj_Thomas- you actually have a picture of it but it's in a language other than English. In your 2nd picture, there's a section that's say "new story in" and then there's a down arrow.  click on the down arrow. It should show the list of sprint and the backlog.

Access to seeing the sprint is not same permission as moving tickets to the sprint. You need edit issue permission to do this.  If you have that permission according to your permission scheme then you are fine.

@Benjamin There is an arrow and the desired sprint is selected. But after creation, the task goes backward. I have rights to move sprint tickets.

@Jorj_Thomas - there's no particular rights to move sprint tickets. It is driven by particular permission set for your user to allow you to move sprint tickets.

1. Do you have the edit issues permission? IF yes, we can rule out this permission as being a cause.

2. Are you able to create task in the backlog and move it into the sprint? If yes, then may need to check with Atlassian support and jot down the version you have. I have the latest server version and have not run into this issue.

@Benjamin Thanks for the support. I will try to update the version. Maybe we can help.

You welcome. I have both cloud and server and both work fine.

There may be some helpful hints in the ticket history and activity to see what may have happen to the ticket when you tried to put it in the sprint. For example, it shows you putting into a sprint but somehow the system is putting it in the backlog.
