Hi,

I have a central scrum board, with associated kanban boards for the 3 squads. My central backlog is not updating correctly, with myself and my product manager having different views, for example I can only see 5 stories, she can see 20. The stories are not reflecting across the backlog and onto the different boards, I can't see the story points, or can I see what's in the actual sprint. I have tried to fix it, as well as a couple of developers but its now become a blocker for recording our work and cannot complete sprint planning.

Please can someone help?

Hi @Naomi Lloyd Jarvis ,

This usually comes down to board filters or column mapping. A few quick checks:

  • Make sure the board filter JQL includes all the issues you expect.
  • Check Board settings → Columns — if a status isn’t mapped, issues won’t show in backlog or sprint.
  • If the sprint was created on another board, confirm your filter includes those issues.
  • For missing story points, check Estimation settings and that you have Browse Projects permission.

Hope the above helps,

Also if you share your board filter and column mapping, we can help pinpoint the problem better.

Hello, thank you for your response. The problem we are having is that despite being a company managed board, the filter settings are not visible, I am also an org admin

Hi @Naomi Lloyd Jarvis ,

If the board is company-managed and you can’t see the filter settings, it’s likely because you’re not the filter owner. Even as an org admin, Jira respects filter ownership.

Two options:

  1. Ask the current filter owner to share or transfer ownership.
  2. If you have Jira Administrator permissions, you can change it:
    • Go to Jira settings → System → Filters
    • Find the filter → Details → Change owner

Changing the owner to u and then sharing it with u or a group probably will solve your problem, then change it back to the original owner.

tell me what happens 😊

I can change the owner of the filter, but I still can't access it/share it/see what it is

If your stories or tasks are not showing up on your backlog, active sprint board, it's usually due to how the board, filters, or issues themselves are configured. Here are some common reasons:

1. Boards use filters (e.g., JQL in Jira) to decide what to show. If the issue doesn’t match the filter, it won’t appear.

2. Tasks not linked to the sprint won’t appear on the sprint board.

3. Issues in unlinked statuses (e.g., Blocked) won’t show on boards.

4. You may not have permission to see certain issues.

5. Done or closed tasks might be hidden post-sprint.

6. Automations might move tasks or unset sprint fields.

Hi @Naomi Lloyd Jarvis

Welcome to the community.

Are you having the correct permissions on all or the project?

Also are the filter used by the boards shared or private filters?

On your explanations, it all seems to related on permissions not being provided correctly.
