Story issue type missing from board filter in the project

Anup Varghese

We have a team managed project.

The board lists issue type: Task and Bug

It is not listing issue types Story and Sub-task anymore.

So the board does not list all the issues we had been seeing. It does not list story and sub-tasks. They have been filtered out.

How can we configure the board to show Story and Sub-task issue types ?

Thanks

Hello @Anup Varghese

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

Let us first confirm the type of the project. Please find the project on the View all projects page and tell us what it says there in the Type column.

Team Managed projects don't use Schemes, so if you are seeing information in the Project Settings page that names Schemes for the project, then you are not actually working with a Team Managed project.

Additionally, have you confirmed that there are actually issues in existence in the Project that are of those issue types? The board can only list issues that exist. If there are no issues of those types in the project, then there is nothing to be displayed on the board.

Thanks!

Checked it, the project is a "Team-managed software".

Yes, I don't see this project listed in Schemes. Ok, so that is good.

Yes, I can confirm that the issues of type Story, Task, Sub-task and Bug exist for this project.

I verified it from Filters > All Issues, selected Project:"project", Type:All, Status:All, Assignee:All

Here i can see all the issues, more than 60 of them.

But in the Project board, the filter lists only two types: Bug and Task.

Story and Sub-task are not listed. Here I see only 13 issues.

Is the board a scrum board or kanban board?

You said in the board the filter lists only two types, and doesn't include Story and Subtask.

On a Team Managed board the issue type filter won't include Subtasks. Subtasks will show on the board view only when you select Group By Subtasks.

In addition the filter will display only the issue types for which there are issues displaying in the board. Since story isn't available that suggests that there are no stories to display on the board.

You said you verified with a search that the project does contain Story type issues.

If you are using a scrum board, the board view will display only the issues that are in active Sprints -sprints that have been started but not completed.

If you are using a kanban board issues the have been in a green/done status for 2 weeks or longer are automatically hidden from view.

In additional, all the possible status values for the issues have to be mapped to columns. If a status value isn't mapped to a column then issues assigned that status won't display on the board.

Do any of those explain the missing issues for your board?

If not then ad suggested by @Bill Sheboy please post screen images.

Yes, these issues have been in green/done state for more than two weeks.

Thats it. I can see the issues back in the project board when I changed the status to "In Progress".

Thanks for the answer. I would not have known.

To answer the questions, This is a kanban issues board.

We have 3 columns mapped to 3 statuses, by default(To Do, In progress & Done).

Hi @Anup Varghese

In addition to the other questions the community is asking, trying to help:

Would you please post an image showing the backlog?  In particular, we want to see the top of the page and showing any issues of the types missing from the board.

Would you please post an image of the entire board?  This should show the entire page width and height, allowing us to see any options selected that may impact filtering, and if this is a Scrum or Kanban configuration.

Kind regards,
Bill

From @Trudy Claspill answer, it now understood that the issues disappeared as the issues were in done status for more than 2 weeks.

Thanks for looking into this issue.

Welcome to the Atlassian Community!

Have you applied any quick-filters to the board?  Could someone have removed the story and sub-tasks from the project?

Thanks !

After some searching, it seems my project does not have quick-filters. Guessing, no quick-filters for a Team Managed Project ?

The Story and Sub-task could have been removed from the project. But don't know how that could happen.

In settings > Issues > Issue types, there is Story and Sub-task

They are related to "Default Issue Type Scheme".  "Global (all unconfigured projects)" is associated to this scheme.  I don't see our project specifically listed in this scheme. I tried adding the project to "Default Issue Type Scheme", there is a note that said "You can't associate independently-created projects with this issue type scheme"

So I am not sure what is happening, what caused the Story and Sub-task types to disappear from board filter in the project.
