Story creation in Epic Template without adding DoR/DoD every time

Dear Atlassian Community,

Currently we are using Templates for Epics and Stories in order to not add general information each time manually (e.g. DoR/DoD).

Current Situation: When creating an Epic over "Create Issue from Template" and wanting to add User Stories to that Epic, I always need to use "Create Issue from Template" (User Story) and link it to the Epic.

Wish: What I want to do is; create an Epic over the template and then click on issues in Epic

and get the option, to use a template I have created.

Otherwise I can only use the Epic Template and the Story template seperately and need to link them together.

Do you have any ideas how to solve this?

KR Karin

Hi @Karin Biedermann

Out of the box this functionality is not available.  I suggest you look into the marketplace for plugins that provide you with this functionality in DC.  Some may be free, but you will have to work with the system admin to install for you.

There are two main options for applying DoR/DoD in Jira:

  1. Manual checklist approach
Teams add DoR/DoD items as checklist entries or checkbox fields and update them by hand. This is quick to introduce and easy to understand, but it relies on people remembering to complete every check. In busy sprints, manual checklists often become inconsistent or are treated as a box-ticking exercise.
  2. Automated readiness assessment
Tools like ReDo (https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/949313977) automatically evaluate Jira issues against configured DoR/DoD criteria and show a simple 0–100% readiness score. This makes readiness transparent, measurable, and easier to enforce across the team.

ReDo also supports manual checkboxes for criteria that require human confirmation, such as “PO approved”, “UX reviewed”, or other custom team checks. This gives teams both structured automation and the flexibility of a traditional checklist in one app.
