In a Kanban board for the Company-Managed project, I want to create multiple boards each having the same column layout. It seems that this is not allowed. I created a few boards but I can't create the same columns. What is that all about? Also when I delete certain columns, they still persist in the Summary page. The Trash is empty.

The name of the columns given by the template, e.g. Software Project, seems to persists throughout the Jira project, e.g. in Status overview.

I changed "Selected for Development" to "Pending Review" and moved it around on the Kanban board. The name changed on the Kanban board, but anywhere else it still uses the old name.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your answers. I'm still not sure what the relationship between a Kanban column name and the  "Status" is? Why is there a difference at all?

I'm going to show you what I mean in the following screenshots. Please, have a look at this first one. It's got "Backlog" and "Selected for Development" still in the Status overview, even though I changed the column names to what's shown in the next screenshot. If it's hard to see, these were: "To Do", "In Progress", "Pending Review" and "Done".

The question is, @Marc - Devoteam and @Trudy Claspill why the Status doesn't correspond to Kanban column name:

The other question is, as you can also see in the second screenshot, I can't add the column name that is used in another board. Guys, I'm just trying to get my head around it.

Please, see here:

I've been selecting "All work items from your project" to create additional Boards. In fact, that's not what I'd want. Actually, I'd want Software team to have their own board, and Hardware team their own etc... How can I accomplish this?

Fresh news, I've managed to rename all the Kanban boards to have the same layout and names, and yet the Project's Status overview still shows the old "Selected for Development".

Thanks

Hi @Maciej Janaszak

A status is part of a workflow.

A board is based on columns and within the columns statuses can be associated.

A column can be given a name as wished and can contain multiple statuses.

Aha and you are using a team managed project.

You can't create another board directly on the Team-managed project. But you can vote for the feature request and follow it here:  JSWCLOUD-17371

In the meantime, you can create another board that uses a filter that includes a Team-managed project. You just can't use the project for the Location field of the board - you need to use your profile or another generic Company-managed project. But that won't affect the cards that show on the board.

Hello @Maciej Janaszak

Welcome to the Atlassian community.

You can most definitely make multiple boards have the same layout for a Company Managed Software project. How are you concluding that you can't do this?

In a board for a Company Managed Software project the name of a column can be different than the names of the Statuses mapped to the column.

Column names and status mappings are board-specific. If you change the name or position of a column in one board, or the statuses mapped to the columns, that does not affect other boards referencing the same issues.

Can you provide screen images of the Columns page, the Summary page, and the Trash where you think you should be seeing information?

If I have guessed correctly to what you are referring, the Summary page reflects the status of the project, not the information in any particular board. So removing columns or unmapping statuses in any particular board would have no impact on the Summary page.

When a project is initially created from a template, a set of statuses are created by default based on the template. The board will initially be set up with each status mapped to a separate column, and the Column names will be set to match the Status names. The Status Overview on the Summary page is showing information by Status name, not by Column names.

Can you provide screen images pointing out exactly what you changed, and where you are seeing the change did not persist?

Hi @Maciej Janaszak

Columns are per board, so to have the same view on each board, actions need to be taken on each board.

Board columns don't work like a workflow status, when you re-name a workflow status it impacts global.
