We want to ensure that the Epics in Jira--particularly in backlog--reflect our stack ranking. However, we've discovered that the stack ranking in the backlog for Epics is aligned with the stack ranking we have present in Jira Advanced Roadmaps and the filter we use to export to Google Sheets.

However, we find that the stack ranking for Epics in the standard backlog view is different from what we have present in Jira Advanced Roadmaps and the filter we use to export to Google Sheets--and are struggling to figure out why .

Any guidance you can offer would be appreciated.

I am sorry that the answer you got before was misleading - it was generated by an AI that has no understanding of your question or Atlassian software.

The backlog view does not look at Epics, it only displays them.  A backlog is sorted simply by the global rank of the issues, there's no stacks in it.  The backlogs are intended for the team that the board/backlog represents, and they don't need to care about your stacked ranks - the issues in the backlog will reflect the global ranking.

Another way to look at it is that stacked ranks are great for organising at a higher level across teams, but any given backlog for a team simply inherits the ranks you decide on within the stacks.
