Sprint board always grouping by 'stories'

Is there a way to overwrite the default sprint board behavior where the grouping always default to Stories now? 
I think something has changed in recent updates, because before the grouping was remembered in the sprint board. But now it changes once the page is refreshed back to 'stories'

Yes, seems it was changed recently, as it is also the same on our side. Yesterday, another community member stated this.

you are correct at the moment we don’t have an option to change or override this. With the new Jira board UI, this behavior is now the default.

Earlier, Jira used to remember the “Group by” selection across refreshes, but after the recent UI update the board always resets back to “Stories”. This seems to be part of the new design and not something we can control in the board configuration
