Some custom fields are not visible for certain issue type

Akil Official January 23, 2023

Hi team,

Some of the custom fields created are not visible in issue type -Task/Story.

To elaborate: I have created a custom field as Target end date and added it to the screens. The field configuration is in shown.

The field is visible when i click the configure fields button.

I also tried clicking where is my field option and it came up saying all the issue types are in scope.

Can you please help me understand why it is not visible in the screen?Target date 2.pngTarget date.png

@John Funk is correct. The Target End field is specifically used by Advanced roadmaps.

From looking at your site, it appears that you are currently using the Free plan of Jira Software.  As such, you should know that Advance Roadmaps is only available on our Premium plans. This fact alone will restrict the functionality around that field and other system fields that are only used by Advanced Roadmaps.  You need to be using Premium to unlock Advanced Roadmaps features.

If you want to make use of this system field, then you would need to at least start a trial of Jira Software Premium.  You would also need to set/view this kind of field within an Advanced Roadmap plan. I would also recommend using a company-managed project.   Try that and let us know if you run into problems.

Regards,

Andy

Hi @Akil Official  - Make sure the field is not in the Hide When Empty section on the Issue Layout screen.

If it is not in there, you might try to update it for an issue through the Bulk Change function and then see if it shows on the screen. Sometimes this happens when the screen already exists and then you create a new custom field from scratch and then add it to the screen. That seems like a bug to me.

when i try to do a bulk change the custom field is appearing but i am unable to edit as there is nothing coming up with that field. please find attached imageerror.png

Let me see if someone from Atlassian can take a look at it.

Akil Official January 23, 2023

Earlier these fields were visible.

When i try to edit Some issues for which the target end date were given earlier it shows up like the one attached in image.

The target start date and target end date fields are appearing as shown above..

Okay, a couple more questions then. What type of project is this? Jira Service Management? Jira Software? Jira Work Management?

And is it a Team-managed or Company Managed project?

Do you have more than one field in the Custom Fields list for the same name of the field?

Akil Official January 23, 2023

Its a Jira software project.

Its team managed. There is no custom field with same name.

But two custome fields with type as the same as shown in image . could this be an issue?error 3.png

That's probably the problem. I believe those fields are associated with Advanced Roadmaps and are not available yet for Team-managed projects. You should vote for and follow this feature request.
