Show subtasks on next gen board

I'm using a Next Gen Kanban board with assignee swimlanes.  I want to show the task and subtasks as individual cards. Right now it's only showing me the task on the board, and then I have to click into the task to see the subtasks. I can't move a subtask independently through the different columns as its own card.  

If I remove the assigned swimlanes, THEN it shows me the tasks and subtasks independently. But I want to be able to use assignee swimlanes (group by assignee) and see subtasks as individual cards. 

Is there any way to do that with Nex Gen? Or is that only possible in legacy Jira?
