Sharing link to server file in JIra

I would like to create a link to a server file from a Mac computer. I can write the link, which will work correctly until I post the comment on a story. At this point the link is rewritten from smb://server/folder/filename.pdf to http://smb//server/folder/filename.pdf, though if i go to edit the link it looks like this: http://smb://server/mainfolder/subfolder/filename.pdf. Is there any way to prevent the link being altered? I've been testing in Chrome.

Check out the following KB on this behavior, but its a Browser level security block that prevents this from completing the link:

• Can't Link to Local Files from within JIRA

I would recommend setting up a FTP or sFTP server on the mac device to serve up the files as the other workarounds are to disable security protocols in the browser.
