Setting Backlog Rank based on specific Sort

I'm working with an older backlog that has a large list of items within.  In order to organize the backlog into a viable and useful roadmap, my team has put together a priority order for what cards should be done in what order - in general.

From what I've encountered so far, there is no way to "Reset" the Ranking on these cards to match this new sorted priority order.  I've checked the Import functionality, but it apparently only works to create new issues rather than override information in the current issues.

Is there a way to accomplish this request other than having to manually drag/drop every issue into the order necessary?  Even though this would get the job done, it would be an impossible amount of time necessary to not only organize, but to also keep up to date as issues are added or completed.

Hello Zach,

Welcome to Atlassian community!

I understand that you are trying to set the order of your backlog based in the priority field instead of the rank field, is that correct?

Can you confirm if you are using a Next-gen or a classic project?

On a Classic project, the order of the backlog issues can be configured by editing the board query:

- Navigate to your board > Board setting > General > Edit filter query

- Change the parameter ORDER BY Rank to ORDER BY Priority and save it

Although this change is not available on next-gen projects, we have a feature request opened to achieve it here:

Ability to configure board filters for next-gen project

Let me know if this information helps.

Hello Petterson,

I'm sorry, I may have been a bit unclear on what I'm trying to do.

I want to be able to reset the Ranks based on a sort order.  So, for example - If the current Ranks are the normal 1-100, but I want to change that order to 80, 75, 1, 5, 99, 19... (basically a sort that doesn't match the current Rank order, but I want it to update the Rank order).

I know I'm able to move tasks around one at a time or in groups, but in this case it's a huge reorganization of an over 700 Issue Backlog that this activity would take Days to accomplish and open up a lot of avenues of error when my eyes end up putting a task in the wrong placement.

I hope that makes sense?

Thanks!
