I am a bit confused about the roles in a regular Jira project. This is a Project Management template, company-managed, in the free Jira version.
Via Project Settings > People, I can select 3 roles: 'Administrators', 'Service desk customer' and 'service desk team'. But these are Service Management roles? Why are these roles shown if I am in a "regular" Jira project, not a service desk one?
I did create a specific group for this project, but as we have a free version, everyone can see everything and I can just rely on the 'any logged in user' for now.
Another question is, should my regular users show up in the 'People' overview?
Thanks in advance.
Roles are not project specific, except for the ones that you define for Jira Product Discovery, and that is why you are seeing the service ones on a regular Jira space. Currently there is nothing that you can do about it other than ignore it.
Roles are globally defined, and therefor available fro each project.
Depending on the permission scheme used on a project, where permissions are defined based on role, group or user, a role will have impact.
Except roles defined on projects that are team-managed, including Jira product discovery.
Global defined roles can be used on each company-managed project, if defined in the project related permission scheme.
