SSo for Jira in the Cloud: Why would I need to claim a domain for SSO?

We configure SSO on every cloud app the org uses, and never have to claim a domain as specified in the documentation.  Or Enterprise has several disparate instances of Jira across multiple departments, and there is no interest in consolidating these into a single instance due to data separation needs.   There should be no need to claim a domain, as we are not using the domain in the URL or access, and it is not needed in the SAML or OAUTH claims process.

Hi Brett,

I don't have a good answer for you right off hand, but curious if there is a reason that it would be a problem for you to claim the domain?

doing so would likely lock any of our other instances from using SSO

because they would not be able to claim the domain

Gotcha. Sounds like you should investigate an Enterprise subscription with Atlassian then.
