Restrict access by columns

GZ August 27, 2020

In my new gen project I have 3 groups researchers, developers and QA, I wanted to create 3 boards separately but it is still not available.
Now I would like to solve this problem  by utilizing filters or maybe permissions creatively (e.g. researchers only see research columns, developers only see development columns, QA only see QA columns).
Please advice on above.

@GZ, even though this is NG, you can create separate kanban boards, placing them under your profile and add shortcuts to each on your project sidebar. Just create the three filters to achieve what you wish to display in each.

Thank you Jack!

Do you mean to create 3 projects, link them (Add items from sidebar)? can you explain more about adding filters.

Then if needed I can move for example issue from Development board to QA board?

no. You indicated you wanted to have 3 separate boards to present data to your three groups (researchers, developers, QA). I assume this is associated w/ a single NG project, correct? Assuming so, my suggestion was to create three filters:

  • researchers --> project = myNGproj and xxx
  • developers --> project = myNGproj and yyy
  • QA --> project = myNGproj and zzz

you need to fill in the x/y/z here or give me more info so that I might help you should that be desired/necessary. Basically answering "how do you define issues owned by each group".

Next create three boards (kanban or scrum) and set the location of each to your Profile. Customize the boards to reflect what you wish each group to see. Then add shortcuts to the sidebar of your NG project to each board using the "Add item" link on the sidebar.

Correct

Should I create 3 groups with according team members?

Should x, y, z be group names ?

And also when I an trying to create new board search --> board -->create board --> create kanban board --> Board from an existing project (Boards can contain one or more projects). --> project shows no matchesCapture.PNG

Correct (attached what kind of boards I want)

What criteria would you suggest to put in x, y, z (maybe labels - project = " Next Gen" AND labels = Researchers (X), Developers (Y) and QA (Z))

I am trying to create new board

Search --> Boards ---> Create Board -->Board from the existing project --> Project does not appear in project filed - please advice.

Thank you in advanceBoards.PNGBoard 2.PNGBoard.PNG

People will always see all the columns on any board they can see.

You might be able to make columns look empty with "issue security", as Jira won't show cards in columns if a user does not have the permission to see the issue behind the card, but that does mean you'll be hiding the issue from the user in all places.  But that's probably not what you want, and I'm not sure that Next-gen does issue security yet.
