Hi Team,

Should we restart the jira server after the full reindex ? Usually it will auto restart after the reindex is completed. We did the full reindex on Monday, today we have seen jira slowness and unable to write (create the tickets, comments, etc). We are suspecting it would be the cause. Could anyone please suggest on this. We are on jira server 8.13.3 version.

Thanks!

Jira does not automatically shut down or restart after re-indexing, it doesn't need to.

Also, I want to question why you ran the re-indexing?

Some people think running a re-index speeds up the system for them, and start doing it on a schedule, especially when they are perceiving Jira gradually running more slowly.  The problem is that they're just "plastering over the cracks" with this.  A re-index will only improve performance if there's something corrupting the index, and they're ignoring that problem instead of fixing it.  (Note, equally, restarting Jira to make it faster and see it gradually slow is also ignoring a problem - it's got a memory leak, misconfiguration or other problem if a restart makes it more responsive, and that should be fixed)

Hello @Lakshmi CH ,

Usually you dont have to restart the application after a full re index. Have you checked you Java memory? How is the performance on the server itself? Enough memory and CPU? I would check the database server to make sure its performing well.
