Hello @Olive Sun,

Thank you for reaching out to Atlassian Community!

The Releases/Versions date and time are actually based on the computer’s timezone.

I tested on my local site by changing the system timezone (Cog icon > System > General configuration) and there were no changes on the release. Then, I also changed my profile timezone, but the also, no changes.

The calendar only changed after I changed my OS timezone.

For everything to work as expected, it’s important to set everything in the same timezone, but for the releases, it will depend on the OS configuration.

Kind regards,
Angélica

Hi @Angélica Luz

Thanks for the comments.

I'm asking this because I want to clarify when a release in JIRA will show as "Overdue".

However, it seems not related to the OS time zone but the release date is in UTC after testing on my side.

Could you help confirm?

Thanks,

Olive

Hello Olive,

Thank you for sharing the results of your test. Checking internally with my colleagues, we were able to find internal documentation that confirms what you said.

What I said is not correct. It does change the calendar in Jira if changing the timezone on the OS, but it’s not directly related to the Releases/Version. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Here are the details we found:

  • Versions REST resource (in our official API) - UTC timezone
  • Versions page - System timezone
  • Versions in Jira Software backlog - Default Jira timezone
  • Release version dialog in Jira Software board - Displays the date in user default timezone. When the user wants to update the release date using the release version dialog, the date selected by the user is parsed using the UTC timezone.

The default Jira timezone is the one set on Cog icon > System > General configuration.

System timezone is the timezone of AWS machine/JVM (not accessible on Cloud).

User timezone is the one set on https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/account-preferences.

We found these details because there is a bug related to the start/release date:

- Versions showing start date and release date 1 day earlier

Hope this helps!
