R&D Scrum Team

We recently Agile practices and while all scrum teams are now on 2 week Sprint Cadence, there is one team who spends 40% of the resources on R&D type of work and remaining 60% on regular initiatives. The R&D work priority changes almost every week and are very adhoc in nature. Currently they using Kanban board for both stream of activities. Any suggestions on how we can get that time also on same cadence without compromising the creativity.

Hi @sprasad,

You could experiment with a combination of a kanban and a scrum board for your team. I suppose you want to plan the 60% regular initiatives for the team in the same sprint cadence as your other teams. So set up a scrum board, but only plan the team at 60% capacity.

Then use a kanban board that includes the creative ad hoc work AND the active sprint of the scrum board and have the team still work from that kanban board.

To pull in work from the current sprint of - let's assume - a project, you can use a board filter like this:

project = "Your Project" AND sprint in openSprints() 

At the same time, keep in mind that this is just A technical solution in your tool. I guess the main thing you want to achieve, is that your teams work together to achieve their goals. So I would say, involve them, find out what works best and have your tools support that as good as possible.
