Putting more information in JIRA e-mail notifications

How can we get more information into JIRA e-mail notifications?

I could swear that they used to be far more informative. But no longer.

The emails now have only the ticket ID as subject — they don't even mention the ticket title.

And when comments are made, all the notification says is "XXX added a comment", without any detail.

The email notifications have gone from being pretty useful, allowing us to engage well as a distributed team. But they are now are completely useless, and we need to fall back to meetings, conference calls and IM just to understand the basics of what people have done.

Is there any way to turn back on that next level of detail?

I realise I can log back in to JIRA, and look at the notifications online. But that is far less convenient for me.

Hi,

Jira email notifications are controlled by the Notification Scheme and the site’s email settings. By default, Cloud notifications are more compact and often include limited details.

You can try the following:

Check Project Settings → Notifications to confirm the correct events are configured

In Personal Settings → Email notifications, switch to the more detailed format (if available)

Ensure comment visibility is not restricted (internal vs public)

Verify that your mail client is not trimming content

In Jira Cloud, the level of detail in emails is more limited than in older versions, and full customization of the email template is not supported. For richer notifications, many teams use integrations (e.g., Slack/Teams) or automation to send custom messages.

Hope this helps 👍
