Project Plan to reflect initiatives that are on target or not

Is it possible to color code the Plan view to reflect initiatives that are on track, close to due date, after the due date?

I need an easy visual to show leadership

Hi @Nicole Boerboom,

Your plan will display warnings for issues that are off track. A yellow warning sign will appear in front of the initiative if the issue itself or one of its child issues is overdue.

I am not aware of a (built-in) way to color-code the issues or the timeline itself based on an issue being overdue, on time or nearing the deadline. You could consider automating this somehow - suppose you set up a select list custom field with 3 options (on track / at risk / off track) and assuming that an issue by default is always on track ... You could update the issues status when it is incomplete and close to reaching its due date and show it as off track as soon as its due date passes. You may then be able to add that field to your plan and use it for colouring the timeline bars.

However, I am afraid that may need a lot of automations to trigger just for the purpose of colouring. And add a lot of complexity, as you would need to make your child issues trigger updates all the way up to parent issues across the board.

It might be an idea to just stick with the warnings that are there by default in your plan. Or - if you want to find a good way to communicate project status frequently to stakeholders - you may want to take a look at Atlas. Not as a replacement for your plan, but as a project communication tool alongside it.

Hope this helps!
