Project Administrator permissions

I am trying to understand the atlassian-addons-project-access role in Jira. It is a role under System->Project Roles, but it is not selectable when adding a user to a project and assigning their role(s). Then what does it do, and how is it used?

In Jira Cloud, is there an equivalent to a Project Administrator? Is that the role of the Administrator?

I am trying to grant specific users within projects to be able to manage the project without having to be a Jira Admin. How would one go about that?

Thanks for the help!

Hello @donhames

That role is used exclusively for apps that are added to your instance, such as the apps available in the Atlassian Marketplace. It is not a role that you would grant to an actual person.

Some apps require specific permissions to projects to provide the functionality they advertise. That role is used to grant them access.

As to the problem you are trying to solve, there is a built in Administrator role for projects. If you want to make users Project Administrators, grant them the Administrator role within the project.
