Product Discovery: Automatically apply a default template to idea on creation, without selecting

With the new Product Discovery Projects, we're looking to apply a default template on idea creation - without manually having to select one from the templates menu.

We'd like to do this to guide our product managers, who are not familiar with jira, into recording their ideas in a standardised format.

Adding a vote to this idea. I'd like to default a template to the ideas created. Having options is causing confusion and inconsistency across our stakeholders.

I was watching the video from Atlassian where a default template was automatically used when creating a new idea which led me here looking for the setting. Since no one has mentioned it, you can do this. Go to Project settings -> Features -> Create ideas -> then select the template you wish to use. Once I did this, clicking "Create" at the top of the page now auto populated the template in the description. A quick note that this does not seem to add the template to an idea created with the "Create an idea" button where you just add the summary directly in a view.

The ability to select the template during idea creation (not after save) and/or being able to set a default template to be used is base functionality that is needed in the product.

I would also like to infuse the description of an idea with an template on creation

Plus one-ing this. It is impossible to enforce a description template if the template is only populated in ONE of the places that someone can create an idea. 

And i can't seem to figure out how to do it with any of the automations either - ie: When issue created, IF description Is Empty, THEN print template.
referencing a template doesn't exist as far as i can see. 

Need to enforce the default template to be entered in the description field wherever an idea is being created.

Hi, maybe this workaround could help you:

I installed one idea which has the template in it's description the way I like it to have with any new created idea. 

Then this is the automation which copies the description from my sample issue (ROAD-462) to every newly created idea.

Is that maybe what you are looking for?

Still struggeling with this missing feature. Are there any news or workarounds? I tried to do it via automation but couldnt find a proper solution to apply a template this way.
