When trying to add a watcher a message appears in the lower left corer of the screen when I click on "Add wachers" that says "Something when wrong". It also suggests I reload the screen and contact Atlassian support. I am on a new laptop running Windows 10 Pro using Chrome. I also repeated the problem using IE. I cannot replicate the problem on my former computer that is running Windows 7.

Hello Bill,

Welcome to Atlassian Community!

When trying to add a watcher and it shows an error it may be related to:

  • The user you are trying to add doesn't have permission on the project.
  • You don't have permission to add watchers.

If you are not the administrator of the project, can you please confirm with the admin both options I mentioned?

Also, I would like to clarify something that you mentioned. If you test on a computer with Windows 7, are you able to add the same person as watcher? Is this issue happening only on the computer running Windows 10?

Regards,
Angélica

Hello Angelica,

When Problem Occurs:

The problem occurs on any Jira card in any board I normally work in using my current Windows 10 Pro computer. Regardless of being in Chrome or IE I click "Add Watchers" and bang.  Error message. I do not get the opportunity to choose a person to add. The normal action of the small window opening up to accept input does not appear. Just the previously mentioned error message panel in the lower left.

When Problem Is Not Occurring:

The problem does not occur when I attempt to click on add watchers from a different computer. I can successfully add watchers when using my old  Windows 7 computer using Chrome and other Windows 10 computers using Chrome in the office and also my own personal one at home.

Because I can do it successfully from a different computer I feel confident this is not a matter of Jira security.  Since it only occurs on my new computer and from two different browsers I suggest that maybe this is a result of a security setting on the computer that is above the browser level.

Your thoughts Angelica? My local IT help for Jira has provided that my account settings are no different from anyone else but has not offered any idea for a resolution beyond "Consult Atlassian Support".

Hi Bill,

Thank you for all the details and tests. The issue indeed is not related to permissions, so we need to investigate better why this issue is happening only on your computer.

Are you using any specific browser extensions on both IE and Chrome? If so, please disable the extensions and try again. You can also test using incognito mode.

There are some other tests you can try, please check the documentation below for more details:

Please, give it a try and let us know how it goes.
