Porting free JIRA instance over to licensed JIRA instance

Deleted user April 6, 2022

I'd like to find out how do I go about exporting my JIRA website over to another JIRA instance. I'm currently using the free version of JIRA and manager has a JIRA licensed instance that I'd like to move my JIRA instance over to. We would like to conduct a proof of concept if possible to see if it's feasible and what the implications are. please advise.

Hi @[deleted]

Is this for two Cloud instances?

If yes, check out these instructions as a good starting point for Cloud-to-Cloud migrations: https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/perform-a-cloud-to-cloud-migration-for-jira/

Thanks for your response @Ste Wright .  It looks like I'm JIRA software not JIRA cloud and I'd have to confirm if the other JIRA instance is using JIRA cloud or another type of JIRA instance.  Is it possible to port from JIRA software to another type of JIRA instance or does it have to be apples to apples?  I do see in the setting that I can backup for JIRA cloud or JIRA server if I want to export the site.

Hi @[deleted]

Jira Software is a product type, like Jira Work Management, or Jira Service Management.

These can be hosted in Cloud (SaaS) - or self-hosted in a Server/DC environment.

Based on your comment about backups, this does sound like a Cloud environment, what makes you think the two hosting types differ?

Just in case it is a Server > Cloud migration, check out the guide for this here.
