Pop-up alert when a user has created a new ticket

Mads Skov Schiellerup January 17, 2019

Hi,

In my team, we just moved to JIRA Cloud, and have created a fully functional project.
But we would like to implement a solution, which creates a pop-up on our screen, when a user has created a new ticket. A bigger explanation below:

We have 2 instances of JIRA Cloud.
The first one, is our project, where we have our tickets, and different queues to each user in our Service Desk. The second one, is what we call our 'One-Stop-Shop' for our users in the house(users like journalists, graphical designers, marketing - a big range of different users), where they can create a ticket, if they etc. need a new PC, a program or maybe a headset. This ticket they create, then gets moved to our queue 'Unassigned issues'.

We have just installed a screen to our wall, where we have this 'Unassigned issues' queue displayed, so we rapidly can assign the tickets manually when they are created.
But because we not always looks at this screen, it's not always we see when a new ticket is created for us.
So we would like to implement a solution, that when a user created a new ticket, and it's placed in our 'Unassigned issues' queue, that a red popup box appear(or something similar) on the screen on the wall, so we are made aware, that a new unassigned ticket is created.

Is this something that can be done?
I've not programmed apps for JIRA before, but I do have programing experience.

Kind regards,

Mads

Hello,

I agree with @Joe Pitt, your options are very limited here. But I also want to ask you, are you absolutely sure you want something like that? Because if you have many tickets opened throughout the day, it will look like fireworks on your screen. You will see a red pop up on your screen repeatedly. These kind of things, in my experience, do more harm than help. Your users may start to complain about it in two weeks. Even if they don't, they will start to ignore the pop up, anyway. This is more like a habit issue, in my opinion. Instead of that, for example, you can create a dashboard with different filters and display it on the screen. You can differ unassigned issues with categories, place them on the dashboard with different colors . That's one thing you can do.

I hope it makes sense.

Regards,

Elifcan

Yea, sadly it seems my options are limited..
The popup should only be for my team, so the users should not be effected, they only have the ability to create tickets, not see them.

We do have a dashboard, showing the unassigned tickets, but most of the time we are looking into our screens, and can only see the wall from the corner of our eye.

But cheers for the answers - This would only be an enhancement of the service. It's no big deal that our wall screen not can show a popup, we just have to continue as we are doing now. :)

Cheers

Mads

JIRA doesn't provide for that type of functionality and being on Cloud restricts what plugin you can use. .

Cheers for answer.

So there is no solution for this enhancement?
Maybe you have an idea, on another solution with is kinda similar to what I'm searching for?

I though maybe Webhooks could be used, implemented with another item, to create a similar solution, even though that the final solution not can be implemented in JIRA as a plugin?

The notification scheme will send an email upon creation to the notification list. Maybe you email program can handle it. You can create a dummy userid that doesn't have logon permission (won't take a license) that has create notifications going to it and put the email program for the user on the big screen.
