Plugin Issue after upgrading from 8.2 to 9.6 Jira Core

After upgrading from 8.2 to 9.6 we have experienced plugin issues when first trying to sign in using SAMLSSO. At first it says "Sorry we had some technical issues during your last operation", with a 500 error with the skull and crossbones. Reloading the same exact URL it then lets us get to Jira. We theorize it's using an Old session token from a plugin at first then reloading then gets it a new token, but we can't figure out where that is or if that is the true cause of the issue we are experiencing. We looked through forums but couldn't find anything. Has anyone else experienced this type of issue? Appreciate any advise or help on this issue.
